Plans & limits
Your plan sets limits like how many servers you can use, how big they can be, and how many commands, feeds or automations each server can have. The plans page lists every number. You can look at it without signing in. To pick a plan you sign in with Discord first. This page only covers what happens when a server goes over a limit.
How limits count
Most limits are per server, so every server you add the bot to gets its own full allowance. Your plan is tied to your account and covers all of them. The exception is "Servers you can use", which counts across your whole account.
Your plan is for your own servers
A plan's capacity is meant for servers you genuinely run. Sharing, renting out, or reselling unused capacity (for example, taking over a friend's server so you both benefit from one subscription) is not allowed. See the Terms of Service for the full wording.
The member cap and suspension
The bot regularly checks each server's member count against your plan:
- When a server first goes over, the bot posts a warning in its
#snowstormbot-logschannel and mentions you. A grace period of 5 days starts. - If it is still over after those 5 days, the server is Suspended. The bot stays in the server but pauses its features there. Nothing you set up is lost.
To fix it, lower the member count or upgrade your plan. Then open your profile and click Re-check plan limits now, so you don't have to wait for the next check. Once the server is back within limits, its features resume.
When your paid plan ends
Some features are only part of paid plans, for example role menus, tickets, the verification gate, voice hubs, auto moderation, sticky messages, polls, suggestions, giveaways, reminders, automations, custom commands, feeds, scheduled messages and jobs, the vMenu integration, and a custom bot identity. The plans page shows which plan includes what.
If your subscription ends, or you move to a plan that does not include one of these features, that feature stops working straight away in your servers. The dashboard shows it as off, and the bot stops doing it in Discord too. For example, role menu buttons stop handing out roles, and new tickets can no longer be opened. Custom commands disappear from the slash command list in Discord within about 15 minutes, and come back by themselves once the plan includes them again.
Nothing is deleted. Your settings, menus, panels and other setup all stay where they are. As soon as you subscribe again to a plan that includes the feature, it starts working again by itself. You don't have to set anything up a second time. The bot posts a short "paused" message in your #snowstormbot-logs channel when this happens, and a "running again" message once it is back. You get one message per feature, not one for every part of it. If your YouTube, Twitch and RSS feeds all pause at once, a single "Feeds: paused" message lists all three.
Moving to a plan that does include a feature, but allows fewer of something (for example fewer automations than you have switched on), works differently. The bot posts a warning and you get 5 days to switch some off or upgrade. If the server is still over the limit after that, all of them are switched off, and you switch back on the ones you want to keep. Their setup is never deleted. If things were already switched off this way and the plan later stops including the feature altogether, they stay switched off. The "paused" message says so, and subscribing again does not switch them back on for you.
One feature also changes how the bot looks. If your server has a custom bot nickname, picture, banner or bio from Bot Identity & Appearance, the bot goes back to its normal look on your server within about 10 minutes. Your saved look is kept and comes back by itself when you subscribe again.
A few things still finish what they already started, so nothing gets stuck half way. Tickets that are already open can still be closed, polls and giveaways that are already running still end on time, and empty temporary voice channels are still cleaned up. The Verify button of a verification gate also keeps working, so new members are never locked out of your server.
Two things depend on time:
- Reminders that members already set are kept. One that comes due while the plan doesn't include reminders, or while the server is paused for going over a plan limit, is sent as soon as the plan covers it again, as long as that is within a week. See Reminders.
- Scheduled messages that come due while the plan doesn't include them are not sent, and not sent later either, because they were meant for that moment. See Send a message.
Waiting automation runs
Automations can pause with a Wait step. Your plan sets how many runs may be waiting at the same time in one server. When the limit is reached, new runs stop at their Wait until older ones finish. This is written to the audit log, and the bot posts a message in your #snowstormbot-logs channel. It posts again when there is room.
Developer API limits
Plans that include the developer API also come with API rate limits (how many requests your own programs may send per minute and per day). They count for your whole account, not per server. You can see yours on the Developer API page under your profile.
Other limits
When you hit any other limit, the dashboard tells you. Disabling an item usually frees its slot without deleting it, so you can turn it back on later.
