Inviting the bot
You invite SnowstormBot from the Servers page on the dashboard. You can only invite it to servers you own on Discord.
Invite the bot
- Open snowstormbot.net/servers.
- Find the server you want under Available and click Invite bot.
- Discord opens its authorization screen in a new tab. Review the permissions the bot is asking for (see Permissions the bot needs), pick the correct server, and click Authorize.
- That tab returns to the dashboard with a confirmation. The server moves to the Bot installed section and may briefly show Setting up... while the bot finishes joining and prepares its logs channel.
The new tab is on purpose: if something goes wrong on Discord's side, you could otherwise end up stuck on Discord. Your original tab stays on the dashboard, so you can always try again from there. Refresh it to see the new server.
That's it. The bot is now in your server.
Added the bot another way? Finish setup
You can also add SnowstormBot from its Discord profile ("Add App") or with a direct Discord link. The bot then joins your server, but it is not set up yet: until you finish setup on the website it does nothing there. Commands only reply "SnowstormBot isn't set up on this server yet", and automations, logging, XP and every other feature stay off.
When it joins like this, the bot posts a short setup notice. It tries these places in order and uses the first one that works:
- its
#snowstormbot-logschannel (it creates one if it can); - a direct message to whoever added it;
- a direct message to the server owner;
- the first channel it is allowed to post in.
To finish setup, the server owner opens snowstormbot.net/servers, finds the server (it shows a Not set up label) and clicks Set up bot. Discord asks you to confirm the bot's permissions, and a few seconds later the bot switches on. The bot does not need to be removed and re-added.
The same happens if a server changes owner and the new owner has never signed in to the dashboard. The previous owner's setup and data for that server are cleared, and the bot stays but waits for the new owner to set it up.
How the Servers page is organised
The Servers page groups your servers so it is clear what you can do with each one:
| Section | What it means |
|---|---|
| Bot installed | The bot is in this server. You can manage it here (status, update permissions, repair the logs channel, remove the bot, view its audit history). |
| Available | Servers you own where the bot can be invited. A server where the bot was added another way also shows here, with a Not set up label and a Set up bot button. |
| Too many members | Servers you own that exceed the member limit of your current plan. Collapse open to see them. See Plans & limits. |
| Not owned | Servers you are in but do not own, so you cannot invite the bot there. |
At the top you will see a counter such as 2 / 5 active. That is how many servers currently host the bot versus the maximum your plan allows.
Updating the bot's permissions later
If you ever need to refresh what the bot can do in a server (for example after a new feature ships, or if you tightened its permissions), use the Update permissions button:
- On the Servers page, find the server under Bot installed.
- Click the shield / security icon and confirm.
- Discord opens the authorization screen again. Click Authorize.
- The new permissions are applied in place. The bot is not kicked and rejoined, and none of your settings are lost.
Removing the bot
To remove the bot from a server:
- On the Servers page, find the server under Bot installed.
- Click the trash icon and confirm.
- The bot leaves the server within a few seconds and the server frees up one of your plan's server slots.
Removing the bot deletes that server's data
When the bot leaves a server, its data for that server is cleared: XP and leaderboards, moderation records, automations, custom commands, feeds, and pending scheduled messages. Scheduled items stop running. This is intentional, so a server's history cannot reappear later under a different owner. If you only want to pause the bot, turn off the features you are not using instead of removing it.
Why an invite might be blocked
If the Invite bot button is greyed out or you see a warning, it is usually one of these:
- You do not own the server. Only the owner can invite the bot.
- You have hit your server cap. Remove the bot from another server to free a slot.
- The server has too many members for your plan. See Plans & limits.
- The server was suspended by a SnowstormBot administrator and cannot host the bot.
