Reminders

Let members set personal reminders. Someone runs /remindme, picks how long from now and what to remind them about, and SnowstormBot sends them a DM when it's due. Handy for "ping me about the event in 2 hours" or "remind me to post the patch notes tomorrow".

The Reminders feature is off by default and depends on your plan. Turn it on from the Features page. Members use the commands themselves; the only optional setting is the wording of the reminder DM (below).

Customising the reminder DM

Open Reminders in the sidebar (it appears once the feature is on). You can set a custom reminder DM for the whole server, or leave it blank to keep the built-in "⏰ Reminder" wording. Tokens: {reminder.content} (what they asked to be reminded of), {reminder.channel} (where it was set), {reminder.setat} (when they set it). See placeholders.

Setting a reminder

Anyone in the server runs:

/remindme duration: 2h text: post the giveaway winners
  • duration is how far in the future to remind you. Use formats like 10m, 2h, 1d, or 1h30m. A bare number means minutes (30 = 30 minutes). The shortest is 1 minute and the longest is 365 days.
  • text is what you want to be reminded about (up to 1000 characters).

SnowstormBot replies privately to confirm, and sends you a confirmation DM. When the time comes, it DMs you the reminder.

Listing and cancelling

  • /reminders list shows your pending reminders in that server, soonest first. Each has a number (#1, #2, …).
  • /reminders cancel number cancels one by its number from the list, for example /reminders cancel 2.

Both only ever show and touch your own reminders, and the replies are private.

Reminders are delivered by DM

Keep your DMs open

Reminders are always sent as a direct message, so SnowstormBot needs to be able to DM you. When you set one, it sends a confirmation DM straight away, if that fails because your DMs are closed, the reminder isn't saved and you'll be asked to allow direct messages first.

You can allow them in Server Settings → Privacy Settings (per server) or in your global Discord privacy settings. If you turn DMs off after setting a reminder, it won't be delivered.

The due-time DM includes your reminder text and a note of which channel you set it in, so you have the context.

Plan limits

How many reminders each member can have pending at once depends on the server owner's plan. If the plan includes zero, the feature shows Requires plan upgrade on the Features page and can't be turned on. See Plans & limits.

If the owner's paid plan ends, reminders that members already set are kept. When one comes due while the plan doesn't include reminders, the bot holds on to it and checks again every hour. As soon as the owner subscribes again, the reminder is sent, just a little later than planned. If the plan still doesn't include reminders a full week after the reminder was due, the bot gives up and removes that reminder, because it would be too late to be useful.

The same goes for a server the bot has paused because it went over a plan limit (for example more members than the plan allows). The reminder waits, and it is sent once the server is back within its limits, as long as that is within a week.

If the bot is paused on the server for any other reason (the owner paused it from the dashboard, for example), a reminder that comes due then is not sent and is removed.

Tagging members and channels

In the Reminder DM box you can type @ to tag a member, or # to link a channel, the same way as on Send a message. Because this message is a direct message, only members and channels are offered (role tags don't work in a DM) and there are no Ping switches, since a DM only reaches the one person anyway.
