FAQ

Do I need to host anything?

No. SnowstormBot is hosted for you. You sign in at snowstormbot.net, invite the bot, and configure everything from the dashboard.

Can I self-host SnowstormBot?

No. SnowstormBot is offered as a hosted service and can't be self-hosted. The free plan gives you plenty to get started, and paid plans add higher limits when you need them.

How do I add the bot to my server?

Sign in, open the Servers page, and click Invite bot on a server you own. See Inviting the bot. If you added the bot from its Discord profile instead, it joins but stays switched off until you click Set up bot on that same page.

Why can I only add servers I own?

The dashboard acts on your behalf, so it confirms you own a server before letting you link it and invite the bot. Once it's linked, you can hand day-to-day management to a manager role without giving up ownership.

What permissions does the bot ask for, and why?

SnowstormBot asks only for the permissions its features need: managing channels, roles, and members for the moderation tools (including kicks, bans, and timeouts via the action commands), reading messages (so automations can react to them), and sending messages in your server.

It does not ask for Administrator or Manage Server, and as a general security practice you shouldn't grant those to any bot.

Changed the bot's permissions and need to reset them? You don't have to remove and re-invite it: open the Servers page, click the shield icon on your active server, and follow the Discord authorization flow to re-sync them.

Can someone help me manage my server without being the owner?

Yes. Nominate a manager role; members with that role get delegated dashboard access. They can use most feature pages but cannot toggle features or invite/remove the bot.

Why don't I see a feature in the sidebar?

A feature only appears when its feature is on. XP & levels and Message logging are off by default; turn them on from the Features page.

Why did my new command not appear right away?

Discord can take up to an hour to register command changes. Give it some time and check back.

Does removing the bot delete my data?

Yes. When the bot leaves a server, that server's data (XP, moderation records, automations, custom commands, feeds, and pending scheduled messages) is cleared, so it cannot reappear later under a different owner. If you only want to pause a feature, turn it off instead. See Inviting the bot.

The audit log is the only thing kept. Your data is unlinked from your account and server right away, though fully erasing some of it can take up to 48 hours.

Are there limits on how much I can set up?

Some features have per-server allowances (for example how many feeds, scheduled jobs, custom commands, or open tickets you can have at once) that depend on your plan. You can rotate which items are active to stay within your allowance. See Plans & limits.

Why is one of my servers "Suspended"?

It is over a plan limit (usually the member cap), so the bot paused its features there. Resolve the limit and re-check from your profile. See Plans & limits.

Will a level reward role be removed if a member loses XP to decay?

No. Decay never drops a member below a level they have reached, so earned reward roles stay. See XP decay.

Can the bot post to any channel?

It can post to channels it can see and send messages in. If a channel is missing from a picker, check the bot's permissions on that channel.

How do I stop earning XP myself?

Run /xp optout in the server. Your existing XP is kept. Use /xp optin to resume.

How do I delete my account?

On your profile, use Delete my account in the Danger zone. This removes the bot from every server you own and erases your data.

If you have an active paid plan, you'll need to cancel it before you can delete your account. Invoices are always kept, so if you cancel and then delete your account, signing back in with Discord will show your past invoices again.
