Auto-moderation
Scan every message (and edits) automatically and act on the ones that break your rules: Discord invites, mass mentions, message spam, excessive caps, a banned-word list, and a link filter. A tripped rule deletes the message and can warn the member, feeding the same escalation ladder and mod-log as the rest of moderation.
The Auto-moderation feature is off by default and is included on paid plans. Turn it on from the Features page, then open Auto-moderation in the sidebar to configure the rules.
Pair it with Moderation
Message deletion and timeout/kick/ban work on their own, but case logging and the warning escalation ladder need the Moderation feature on too. Turn both on to get the full picture in your mod-log.
The rules
Each rule can be turned on independently. How many you can enable at once depends on your plan; the page shows how many you've used.
| Rule | What it catches | Key settings |
|---|---|---|
| Invite links | discord.gg / discord.com/invite links | — |
| Banned words | Words or phrases on your list | One per line; whole-word, case-insensitive |
| Link filter | Unwanted links | An allow-list (only these domains allowed) or a block-list |
| Excessive caps | Messages that are mostly uppercase | Minimum length, and the caps percentage |
| Mass mentions | Too many mentions in one message | Mention threshold, and whether @everyone / @here counts |
| Message spam | A member sending messages too fast | How many messages within how many seconds |
Link filter precedence. If you fill the allowed domains list, the rule becomes a whitelist: any link to a domain not on it trips. If you leave allowed empty and fill blocked domains, only those domains trip. A listed parent domain (e.g. example.com) also matches its subdomains (cdn.example.com).
What happens when a rule trips
For each rule you choose whether to delete the message and what action to take against the member:
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Delete only | Removes the message (if delete is on) and logs a case. No action against the member. |
| Warn | Records a warning, which feeds the escalation ladder, so repeat offenders are timed out / kicked / banned automatically. |
| Timeout | Times the member out for the minutes you set. |
| Kick | Kicks the member. |
| Ban | Bans the member. |
Every trip is attributed to the bot and lands in your mod-log as a numbered case (when the Moderation feature is on). The same role hierarchy rules apply, so keep SnowstormBot's role above the members you want it to action.
Exemptions
The server owner is always exempt. Add any staff roles that should never be auto-moderated, and any channels to skip entirely (for example a links or memes channel). Edited messages are re-scanned for content rules, so editing a clean message to slip in an invite or banned word is caught too.
Edits are checked
When a member edits a message, SnowstormBot re-runs the content rules on the new text (everything except the rate-based spam rule). Posting something clean and then editing in a banned word or invite is caught the same as posting it directly.
