Verification gate

Make new members click a button before they can take part. A verification gate is a message SnowstormBot posts in a channel with a single Verify button; when a member clicks it, the bot gives them a role you choose, the "verified" role that unlocks the rest of your server. It's a simple, effective speed bump against bots and drive-by raiders.

The Verification gate feature is off by default and depends on your plan. Turn it on from the Features page, then open Verification gate in the sidebar to set one up.

If your paid plan ends, the Verify button keeps working. Your channels are still hidden from members without the verified role, so if the bot stopped verifying, new members would be locked out of your server. You just can't create new gates or change the existing ones until your plan includes the feature again.

How it works

  1. You create a verified role and set up your channels so that everything is hidden from members who don't have it (and visible once they do).
  2. You post a verification gate in a channel new members can see.
  3. A new member clicks Verify and receives the verified role, which reveals the rest of the server.

The gate's button keeps working forever, including across bot restarts, so you only post it once.

Setting one up

  1. Open Verification gate in the sidebar and click New gate.
  2. Give it a name (just a label for you; it isn't shown to members).
  3. Pick the channel to post it in.
  4. Choose the verified role to grant when a member clicks Verify.
  5. Optionally set the button label and an embed title, description, and colour.
  6. Click Save, then Publish to post the message.

A member who clicks the button when they already have the role is simply told they're already verified, nothing changes.

Setting up the channels

The gate only grants a role; making the server "hidden until verified" is done with normal Discord channel permissions:

  1. Create a Verified role (no special permissions needed).
  2. In Server Settings → Roles, or per channel, deny @everyone the ability to View Channel on the channels you want hidden, and allow the Verified role to see them.
  3. Leave the channel that holds the verification gate visible to @everyone so new members can find it.

Role hierarchy applies

SnowstormBot can only grant a role below its own highest role. If verifying fails, drag SnowstormBot's role above the verified role in Server Settings → Roles.

Pairing with a lockdown

The verified role works well with server lockdown: add your verified role to roles a full lockdown also silences so that, during a raid, even freshly-verified members can't post until you lift the lockdown.

Tagging roles, members and channels

In the Embed description box you can type @ to tag a role or member, or # to link a channel, the same way as on Send a message. This text is shown inside an embed, and Discord never sends a notification for tags inside an embed, so there are no Ping switches here. The tags still show up and can be clicked.
