Suggestions
Let members suggest ideas and have the server vote on them. Someone runs /suggest, types their idea, and SnowstormBot posts it as an embed in your suggestions channel with up and down vote buttons. Your staff can then accept, deny, or mark it as being considered, with an optional reason, and the post updates in place.
The Suggestions feature is off by default and depends on your plan. Turn it on from the Features page, then open Suggestions in the sidebar to pick the channel.
Setting it up
- Open Suggestions in the sidebar.
- Pick the suggestions channel where new suggestions are posted.
- Optionally pick one or more manager roles. People with any of those roles (or anyone with the Manage Server permission) can review suggestions.
- Optionally customise the embed title and embed body. Leave them blank for the defaults ("Suggestion #N" and the suggestion text). Tokens:
{suggestion.number},{suggestion.content},{suggestion.author},{suggestion.status},{suggestion.upvotes},{suggestion.downvotes}(see placeholders). The status colour, vote counts, and vote/review buttons are always shown. - Save.
Until you pick a suggestions channel, /suggest has nowhere to post and will tell the member it isn't set up yet.
How members suggest
Anyone in the server runs:
/suggest text: Add a music bot channel- text is the suggestion (up to 2000 characters).
SnowstormBot replies privately to confirm, then posts the suggestion to your suggestions channel as an embed with a number, the author, and the vote buttons.
Voting
Each suggestion has an up and a down vote button. Every member gets one vote:
- Click a direction to cast your vote.
- Click the same direction again to remove it.
- Click the opposite direction to switch it.
The tally on the embed updates as people vote.
Reviewing suggestions (staff)
Each suggestion also shows Accept, Deny, and Consider buttons. Clicking one opens a short box for an optional reason, then SnowstormBot stamps the new status (and your reason) onto the suggestion embed in place.
The statuses are Pending, Accepted, Denied, Considered, and Implemented.
Who can review
The review buttons appear to everyone, but only members with the Manage Server permission or one of the configured manager roles can use them. If someone else clicks, they get a private "you can't review suggestions" notice and nothing changes.
The board
Open the Suggestions page in the dashboard to see this server's board: each suggestion's number, author, current status, and vote tallies. The page is read-only; suggesting and reviewing always happen in Discord.
Requirements and permissions
In the suggestions channel SnowstormBot needs:
- View Channel
- Send Messages
- Embed Links
Without these (or with no suggestions channel configured), the bot can't post a suggestion.
Plan limits
How many suggestions can be open (Pending) at once in a server depends on the owner's plan. Accepting, denying, considering, or implementing a suggestion frees a slot. If your plan includes zero, the feature shows Requires plan upgrade on the Features page and can't be turned on. See Plans & limits.
Tagging roles, members and channels
In the Embed body box you can type @ to tag a role or member, or # to link a channel, the same way as on Send a message. This text is shown inside an embed, and Discord never sends a notification for tags inside an embed, so there are no Ping switches here. The tags still show up and can be clicked.
